It’s often said that the best things in life are free.
Well, just as in most other capital cities, there isn’t very much that you can get for free in Budapest – except........

The Free Budapest Walking Tours

Operating all year round and offering a variety of interesting and entertaining tours, Free Budapest Walking Tour guides show you the most important, not-to-be-missed sights and places of interest, while at the same time providing you with the benefits of their local knowledge with valuable local information, such as; what’s on in Budapest, what’s free or almost free, where to go in the city and perhaps more importantly - where not to go.

They’ll also give you hints and tips on where to get the best value for money in the city, such as which Budapest tourist traps to avoid, recommendations for where to eat and places to drink where you’ll get a combination of good food, good service and great value.

All tours are free of charge and the Free Budapest Walking Tour guides work for tips only. Tipping is not obligatory and at the end of the tour you’re free to give as much or as little as your want to show your appreciation to the guide.

There are several different free walking tours to choose from listed below – do just one, or do them all, after all - they're free!

"These free walking tours are amazing. The tours are simple and easy to understand. The guides are very enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. They will answer any queries you have and tell you what you need to know in Budapest. You learn much things from these tours as I have found. The guides make it very interesting - they put their own personal experiences and they make it funny (therefore when learning the history of Budapest, it is not boring; instead it’s really fun and interesting). So I would recommend these tours to anyone who are going to Budapest."

"Agnes and her assistant were great guides and were absolutely attentive to everyone's needs. Agnes was enthusiastic, gave a lot of information on the various attractions and also provided us with very useful tips on how to enjoy our trip. (e.g. what to bring to a Hungarian bathhouse, practical tips to avoid getting ripped by restaurants, what to eat and what to drink). After the tour, she also brought us to a cheap eatery, where we had authentic Hungarian meals for as low as 800HUF. Great way to start your holiday in Budapest!"

"Through this free tour I could get lots of useful information, practicable and economical tips to enjoy Budapest! Although my first language is not English, I could understand what the friendly guides explained and recommended!! The tour has two guides so that both of them are highly helpful, listen carefully and pay attention to all of tourists!
It's free but the quality is the best I've ever attended!!"

"Fantastic tours. Do NOT miss the Communist tour. It was incredible. Gabor was our tour guide. He is a young man that grew up as a communist- he really gave us personnel and realistic insight to what life in Budapest was like under the communist. The walking tour of the Jewish quarter was very good too. And if you only have a short time in Budapest, go on the walking tour. it will give you great value in a short time. The guides all spoke English and they were easy to understand."
