Budapest Christmas Market, Fair and Lights
In recent years, Budapest has become one of the first choices for visitors looking for a city break or longer term stay.
Located in Vörösmarty tér (square), the Budapest Christmas Market and Fair, which opens in mid-November and continues until end-December, attracts tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world and has become well known for its great atmosphere and selection of more than 120 stalls selling locally made folk art products, traditional Hungarian cuisine and Christmas dishes and glasses of hot spiced wine (Forralt Bor). There are numerous cultural events and programs, including light shows, folk dancers, folk music and jazz concerts during late afternoon and early evening and, especially for children, puppet performances are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Many streets are beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations and lights. Especially stunning are Vörösmarty tér, with its Christmas tree, decorated market stalls and street lights and the illuminated trees on Andrássy út.
