Day Trips Outside of Budapest

Szentendre

Right at the top of most visitors lists of places to visit during their time in Budapest, is the town of Szentendre.
Located about 16 km. to the north of Budapest and directly on the banks of the River Danube, Szentendre is a picturesque little town with a charming town square, cobbled streets, narrow alleys, churches, colorful Baroque buildings and houses and a multitude of cafes with outside terraces, bars, wine cellars, restaurants, museums, galleries and shops.

Szentendre is also known as an artists centre and art lovers will certainly find a visit to the Margit Kovacs ceramics museum a worthwhile experience.
For information about Margit Kovacs, please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margit_Kovacs

The Szamos Marzipan Museum is also a major tourist attraction. Featuring sculptures made entirely from marzipan, including a 160 cm tall scale model of the Hungarian Parliament.

About 3km out of the main town centre is the 46 ha. Szentendre Skanzen
Open-Air Ethnographic Museum, which features almost 350 original and
reconstructed buildings from all parts of Hungary, including a 17th. century
church, a windmill, numerous buildings such as houses, farm houses,
school room, shops etc., all furnished with the original furniture and fittings.
A visit to the Skanzen is just like going back a couple of hundred years in
time and certainly worth a visit.
